A Video Is Worth A Thousand Words
MS Word taught me the basics. How to copy and paste into other programs. I was the happiest camper on the planet. Then, I was climbing the cyber-corporate ladder when I learned how to embed graphics. Finally I had a PhD when I learned how to embed videos. I did not know how to make videos, mind you, but my wife Lee did, and does. So I now have a video of my best cartoon gifts.
Do videos work in the marketing game? There are several schools of thought. My wife uses Cyberlinks Power Director 8 software to make videos. It is as high a state of the art as is available on the market. It has similar capabilities to that of a film, a television program, or you name it. I could sit and watch it for hours. On the other hand, I have seen videos made from obsolete video making programs and I would just as soon read a free ad newspaper. So it is a matter of “getting what you pay for”. I know it sounds snobbish, but we’d all prefer to see a George Lucas film to a student experimental film, though such student films can be quite entertaining.
The way Lee decided to construct the film was to include a great number of my new Generation Two Cartoons set to music, and towards the end show some of the same cartoons along with various gifts and collectibles I have for sell in my various shops. It worked beautifully, and, didn’t seem like some type of infomercial at all. Mainly because it was not.
Videos are not easy to make. Especially with new state of the art software. However my wife Lee seemed to tackle it with ease and I’m very happy.
There are about fifty plus days until Christmas and that means about 40 days of shopping left. My instincts tell me the key is going to be a combination of opt-in mailouts, Twitter, Facebook, bookmarking sites, articles and yet more articles, pings of blogs, blogs, handing out cards and little gift packets, and then rinse and repeat. It never ends. If it were easy, I guess everyone would be doing it. Those who pretend to do it, and gripe a lot, and tell me how I am doing it “all wrong” are my major impetus and motivation to keep going the way I am going. I have excellent mentors and angels who tend to help me along the way. I am an extraordinary man. Not that I care what the critics say (ok I do) but they tell me they are my funny and unique gifts are enchanting.
This is my first try with high quality videos to help build awareness of my offbeat cartoons gift shop. This article, A Video Is Worth A Thousand Words is available for free reprint.
