‘Black Swan’ Movie Review
The “Black Swan” intense drama movie was recently into theaters by Fox Searchlight Pictures last month. I finally got a chance to check it out,and in my opinion, it was extremely entertaining, but in an unusual way. I’m still not quite sure if I understand what happened at the end of it. The film stars: Natalie Portman, Vincent Cassel, Mila Kunis, Barbara Hershey, and Winona Ryder.
The film revolved around Nina who’s a very good Ballet dancer who desires intensely to do a perfect performance everytime. Thomas Leroy who is the director, wants to start a new version of the swan play, and needs a dancer who can play both the white swan and the black swan. He thinks Nina is good at playing the white swan, but is having trouble seeing her play the black swan because she can’t ever seem to let go and relax like she should.
Thomas Leroy eventually chooses Nina for the role, thinking she could still have the potential to pull it off. Character Lilly joins the team, and is the exact opposite of Nina. She has no problems playing the black swan role. Lilly tries to become Nina’s friend throughout the movie, but only caused Nina to become distracted, which enabled Lilly to become Nina’s alternate in the show.
The film contained a bunch of odd dream scenario scenes,so much in fact, that it became tough to tell the difference between the reality of the film and her dream sequences. She was always seemed to fall into a dream. In fact, the movie started out with a dream sequence.
The dreams included her literally starting to turn into an actual swan with her legs buckling, her killing Lilly with a knife to the stomach, slamming the door on her mother’s hand really hard,a strange sex scene between her and Lilly, and other crazy stuff.
The intense film also delivered a couple of sexual scenes, but none of them contained any nudity. It concluded with an odd ending that made me wonder if it was real happening,or if it was just another dream. So in light of that, I’m still not really sure if what I saw happened,or if she was dreaming it up again. It was one of the weirdest scenes I’ve ever seen in movie history.
Despite the oddness of the film,it was very entertaining, and captured my attention the entire time. I gave the movie a B+ grade.
