The world that we live in is full of colors. Everywhere we look, we can see different colors. There are colors that we do not really like and there are colors that somehow magnets our attention. When this happens, we often wonder what is with that color and what it really means. The meaning of colors differs in different places, culture and expression. In this article, we are not going to discuss the expressions involving colors but we are going to discuss what specific color means to different people and different places.

Red is the first color on the list. It symbolizes love and passion. It also means self-assurance, warmth and bravery. Flags all over the world with red color mean differently. The red color in the flag of South Africa represents the death of their heroes who fought for the freedom of their nation. However, the red color in the flag of Russia symbolizes beauty. The color red in the streets means “stop” as reflected by the red light in the traffic light.

The opposite of red and the color that permits us to go when we are on the road is green. Green means hope and rebirth. This is the reason why spring is associated with green so as the beginning of a new year. Green also served as a symbol of victory during the time of ancient Greece. This might be the reason why green is related to optimism. It is also said to be the color of youth. However, green is also related to envy and jealousy.

The color associated with cold and serenity is blue. This maybe because blue is the color of the sea, of the sky and other tranquil things. For the Iranian people, blue is the color for mourning and in other cultures, it is related to victory and success. This is the reason why most first prize awards get blue ribbons. Loyalty and love is also depicted by color blue. This is the reason of wearing something blue by the bride on wedding day.

The color yellow is filled with many meanings. It serves as a sign to give people warning about something. In some cultures, yellow means jealousy, greed and cowardice. In Egypt, the color means mourning, however, it means spring in India.

These are just some of the colors we see around us. Different colors could mean different things in different places. Color meanings, however, are relative.
