While the Oscars generally do a great job of awarding actors who deserve it, I feel there is one actor they have snubbed so far in his career. That actor is Christian Bale.

The guy is so diverse and finally caught his big break with Batman Begins, catapulting him into action star status. Here are some of his finest works in recent memory.

The Dark Knight – Let’s get the obvious out of the way. Arguably the greatest comic book movie of all time, this movie is truly a masterpiece. It took a bunch of tries before Hollywood was able to invigorate the Batman franchise before they got it right with Christian Bale.

Another incredible movie by the duo of Bale and director Christopher Nolan was The Prestige. Also starring Hugh Jackman, Michael Caine and Scarlett Johannson, Bale does an incredible job of playing a talented magician who has some dark secrets up his sleeve that are revealed at the end of the movie.

Two words. The Machinist. Bale weighed less than 130 pounds for this low budget psychological thriller, and that was right after he weighed 210 pounds for Batman Begins.

Another incredible Bale performance can be seen in American Psycho, in which Bale plays a New York City hot shot who is, well…psycho, and does some pretty terrible things. Somehow though, you root for him throughout everything he does.

Inspired by a true story, in Werner Herzog’s Rescue Dawn, Christian Bale plays an imprisoned US pilot during the Vietnam War who plans an escape into the jungles of Laos. Sufficed to say, he lost a ton of weight for this movie as well.

Equilibrium – This movie is sort of bad, but amazing. In a futuristic world where humans take pills to suppress any sort of emotion, Christian Bale does a great job at showing his struggle to feel, while taking down bad guys at the same time.
