Men’s fashion for the last 50 years has been on a rollercoaster. The swinging 60′s to the mods and rockers; some trends left jaws dropped for all the wrong reasons and will be condemned and never forgotten whilst some have changed men’s fashion forever. At the time though a lot of men embraced these styles and trends when really they should have been ridiculed and this is the worst part.

The Hawaiian shirt; Never has the Hawaiian shirt been a good look. Unless you’re a surf instructor from Honolulu, you should never be seen in a Hawaiian shirt. A mixture of the most garish colours combined with the most oversized, worse fitting shirt possible is never going to attract the right sort of attention. To highlight how bad Hawaiian shirts were, they’re now only worn as fancy dress or as a practical joke.

A number of football fans and Jimmy Saville wore it proudly. Probably going down as the worst trend for men in history is the shell suit. Designers of shell suits were not content with using the most impractical and uncomfortable materials possible so they combined them with the most audacious, clashing colours imaginable to make them stand out. Topping things off, shell suits came with a warning; for the wearer to avoid bursting into flames themselves, they shouldn’t stand anywhere even remotely close to a burning flame.

Finally is the denim jacket. While this in itself continues to be a much loved fashion must have, when combined with jeans it’s perhaps just “denim overloads.” Admired and worn in its hay day by many but it shouldn’t have been worn by anyone in reality. Never the colour it was supposed to be, the denim jacket when worn with jeans (as it often was) was simply an overload of denim. Faded beyond redemption from the day they were bought was number 3 the denim jacket.

Of all of men’s worst fashion trends in history, there are only 3 of them. With the mixture of hideous colours and both impractical and uncomfortable materials, they were never going to become a timeless fashion garment which would be worn for decades to come.
